NIU Nian Kuai Le – Happy Chinese OX Year!
I come back! — Wo Hui Lai Le!
In last two months, I have been tried to give myself some excuses for not write any blog and thank to friends who have ‘’met’’ me here and commented on my writing and books. I thought it could be because I was very ill and completely exhausted by working on over one million words for my two books ‘’China Witness’’ and “The Message from Unknown Mothers in China’’(working title), at the same time I had my busy book tours over 20 countries; OR might be because of my mind ‘power off’ after over 10 years struggling between Chinese and English since I move to London in 1997, I needed time to recharge myself with some update knowledge and information both from China and the West; or just being busy with a heavy ‘’New Year time’’, started with western God (Christmas), followed by the western one, then the Chinese one. Chinese New Year 2009 started from 26th Jan and finished yesterday on 9th Feb, it lasts 15 days …
But, after all, I realized that there is no excuse for me at all, it is simply because of being lazy! Sometimes I am really terrified by knowing that I have the same habits as those politicians – I always want to blame someone, or something, for my own mistakes or done something wrong…
Now, I come back and have to apologize to you if … as you know.
Great thanks to all of you, who have read my blog and commented on it, for sharing our thinking with me, caring about my writing…and interesting in Chinese culture…
There is so much I would like to share with you…
The Chinese DVD ‘’Detective Di Ren-jie’’ I watched in last Dec; two books I have read, one is about a report on 140m Chinese migrates, one is about war history – how much Chinese women suffered from Japanese invasion in 1930’s; economic crisis; Gaze children; shake-ed ‘made in China’; shoes thrown to the world top leaders: G W Bush and Wen Jia-bao… the bushfire in Australia…and snow storm in England…endless..
Anyhow, it is 6:48am London time after two hours on line working with my very slow typing.
I must have a cup of coffee NOW to fresh my TODAY…
PS, that would be great if you would like to help my English ;]
Thanks and see you - Xiexie, Zaijian.

Happy new year to you! It must be nice just to be lazy for some time - we need to rest!
I am a Norwegian teacher (of Household economic). I am also responsible for the library at our school. 5 of my collegues and I have a reading group where we also try to find meals and dishes from the books, or from the part of the world where the books comes from.We started the club with theme China, we read different books. Some years later I heard you telling about Sky Burial in a book-tent in Oslo, and I had to buy it at once! It was so fantastic and astonishing! My daughter - she has studied and worked in Asia - was at once very much concerned and she very soon had read The good women of China, and also bought Miss Chopsticks (not translated into Norwegian yet) and read it in a hurry. It’s now on my bed table, but it takes some time getting started when having to read books in English! - Now we wanted to return to China in our group, and I really hope that my friends will enjoy your books as we have done i our family! - Can’t remember the dishes in the book, but I remember that milk was important in the family where Wen stayed in Tibet - so butter and cottage cheese will be some of the important ingredients when our hostess shall compose her meal!
A lot of Asian students have been our guests, visiting from China, Malaysia, Singapore. Some years ago a Chinese girl studing in Oslo celebrated Christmas in our home. She had a Master degree already and was heading for a Doctor degree. She knew nearly nothing about Chinese history! How could we know so much, she wondered. But here we have red Wild Swans, and Red Azalea, and some other books, and we have read newspapers of cause. - She had to mail her mother to find out how she had been occupied in the 70s, and of cause she had been sent far out in the country-side, but she never told her daughter anything! I think her education and successful career was all that ment anything for them!
Well, now you know that 6 Norwegian women will take part in Wen’s searching for her husband the next weeks!
All the best!
Thanks to YOU all — 6 Norwegian women!
My thanks to you not just because of your email warmed my heart in this cold winter, or because of your interesting in Chinese history and culture… My thanks to you also for your sharing such women’s beautiful mind and rich feeling with me as well!
I will go to Norway at the end of April 2009 for my new book ”China Witness” …according to my Norwegian publisher’s plan.
I hope I could hug you and thank you in your land, face to face!
Big hugSSSSSS
Thank you so much for telling Shu Wen’s story. I am a college student who works in a library, and I happened to see Sky Burial sitting on a cart. I picked it up, not knowing much about the book, and I am so glad that I did. It is such a beautiful story, both heartbreaking and uplifting at the same time. I too wonder what has happened to Shu Wen since you wrote the novel. Please let us know if you ever hear from her again.
Wishing you the best.
